Gettin’ rewarded

My son was reconized for his academic performance on the PSAT, which he scored a 142 which would be a 1420 on the real SAT. He was given the Mydris Walker Scholar Award tonight. Where USC Terry Dozier was the speaker. He gave a very humorous, inspiring speech that I actually enjoyed. He talked about being an ugly duckling and becoming the beautiful swan in the end. He spoke of many famous people that overcame obstacles that held them down when they were young. Oprah Winfrey,Thomas Edison and Michael Jordan all of them got over their obstacles.Gettin’ rewared feels good when you have overcome a obstacle. An ostacle could be a word that was planted when you were growing’ like you’re ugly, you’re dumb, or you will never be nothing like your daddy. “Words can kill faster than a bullet” Doozer. Which is true the Bible say there is live and death in the tonuge. What you say some times stays. I had to learn how to love myself because my father and I was never close He was in the home, emotionaly he was not there. I recall the frist time my father ever  hugging me was a month after my mother died in 1991. He needed a shoulder to cry on, when all I had was my pillow. I didn’t mind doing it I needed just as much. Today our realtionship is a little better now he knows how to say “I love you now, we are whatl he has left of mom. Anyway, back to getting rewared I think our children should be rewared by us also not just for doing good in school, commend them on there good behavior, when thet speak a polite word to a sibling. We need to reward one another as adult give a  word of thanks, or just show some love some times by giving out hugs, sometimes thats all it takes to make someones day. Or give a word of encouragement, “Weeping my endure for a night, but joy comes` in the morning.” or “Hold your head up because the sky is the limit to what you can have.” Give some rewards you will receive some rewards. Lettin’ u Go later.

  1. You should be really proud of your son–and excited. Those kinds of PSAT scores, can really open the world up for him. Encourage him to take advantage of the opportunities that come his way. A lot of high school kids get to that Anything Goes stage of knowing (particularly the smart ones) and start thinking nothing matters, everything’s meaningless, and start refusing to live up to the “ridiculous” expectations of today’s society.

Terry Dozier IS a great speaker. I’ve heard him a few times.

Rewards have been in the news the last few days. I’m convinced that the most meaningful praise is recognition of real success. I don’t think love ought to be a reward though–it ought to be given freely. As soon as strings are attached, it’s less meaningful.

  2. Hats off for ur son….and you sound very very happy today…very nice to see that…..tears of happiness from a pround mother…..Congrats to both of you :)
